Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has established a new center dedicated to treating childhood obesity and its related conditions, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The new Center for Better Health and Nutrition will bring together existing programs, including HealthWorks, the Comprehensive Weight Management clinic and the Better Health and Nutrition clinic under one umbrella. Given the link between childhood obesity and future risk of heart disease, the Center will operate as a division of the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The new center will focus on weight management and obesity treatment, with plans to add prevention initiatives. One goal for the center will be to work with pediatricians in the community to encourage them to begin monitoring the body mass index and eating habits of children starting at age 3. The new center will offer services at Cincinnati Children’s satellite locations, each equipped with a team of specialists and a physician or nurse practitioner (O'Farrell, Cincinnati Enquirer/Kentucky Enquirer, 9/20/09).
