HealthPartners Research Foundation Receives $7.3 Million in Grants for Childhood Obesity, Hypertension Studies

The HealthPartners Research Foundation has received three grants totaling $7.3 million to study obesity and hypertension in children, the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal reports. The award includes two grants from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, one of almost $3.8 million for a five-year study of how prevention efforts can reduce childhood obesity and one of nearly $600,000 for a study of obesity in children ages 2 to 5. At the same time, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute awarded HealthPartners $3 million for a four-year study to examine hypertension among 80,000 children and adolescents (Grayson, Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, 9/21/09; HealthPartners Research Foundation release, 9/21/09).
