JMU Receives Grant to Design Nutrition Web Site

James Madison University (JMU) in Harrisonburg, Va., has received a three-year, $3.4 million grant from the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to design and produce content for an interactive Web site featuring nutritional information for children and their families, the Staunton News Leader reports. The site, to be called Health Bites, will provide simple nutritional information for participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC). Visitors to the site can find information on a variety of nutrition topics, including the benefits of breastfeeding and strategies for preventing childhood obesity. The Web site also will include live discussions with WIC counselors and short video clips on nutrition topics. Professionals from JMU's College of Education and Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services will design and produce all of the content on the Web site. According to the News Leader, the site will be completed in three years and be available through the VDH (Staunton News Leader, 10/1/09).
