This supplement of the Journal of Adolescent Health presents research documenting trends toward healthier foods and more physical activity in schools. The authors acknowledge that a wide range of factors influence obesity’s development, but policy and environment solutions may be the key to reversing the childhood obesity trend.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) sponsors several research programs on which these supplement articles are based. They include:

  • Active Living Research (ALR) and Healthy Eating Research (HER);
  • Bridging the Gap; and
  • The Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity at Yale University.
