The purpose of this project is to help states better integrate nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, and physician assistants into their health care delivery systems. The goals of the project are to: (1) educate Southern policy makers about the qualifications and benefits in using advance practice nurses and physician assistants; (2) document barriers to practice for these practitioners, as well as factors that lead to successfully integrating them into the health care delivery system; (3) assist Southern states in improving the legal and regulatory environment for these practitioners; and (4) act as an information clearinghouse for state policy makers, providers, and advocates seeking to expand the use of these practitioners.
