This project will pilot test a local program designed to alleviate the problems of drug related crimes, drug addiction and recidivism in Camden County, New Jersey. The program offers an alternative to sentencing for drug-related arrestees; they participate in a three-phase program designed to end addiction and help them provide a healthy and productive future for themselves without crime. These three phases include detoxification, stabilization, and aftercare. The recent successes of Drug Courts in Miami, Oakland, and Portland suggest that this is a viable alternative to repeated incarceration.
