This grant provides support for technical assistance activities to enhance the development and effectiveness of community-based volunteer physician initiatives. This program will provide education, targeted research, and networking opportunities for those communities that are trying to develop these initiatives to address the needs of the medically underserved. Doctors need help in local organizational development, marketing, and in effectively linking with managed care entities, organized delivery systems, and pharmaceutical companies. The program will provide expertise and direction to communities and their health care providers, who want to begin or are already at work on projects to address the needs of the underserved. Planning, resource development, and marketing will take place over 12 months and will relate closely to the Reach-Out Program. Implementation and communication will take place in the second year.
