The Foundation's Program, Bridging the Gap: Research Informing Practice and Policy for Health Youth Behavior, was designed to improve the understanding of the role of policy and environmental factors in youth alcohol, illicit drug, and tobacco use, as well as diet and physical activity, to evaluate their effectiveness in reducing substance use and obesity among youth. The purpose of this project is an assessment to: (1) determine the value of this Initiative to the work of the Foundation and the field, including policy-makers and other funders; (2) identify strategies for enhancing the value of this initiative for the field and the Foundation in the future; and (3) develop recommendations regarding the evolution and renewal of this project, including prospects for co-funding. The assessment will use interviews and review of existing documentation to develop a report and will be considered successful if it informs Foundation staff about the value of the existing initiative in addition to making suggestions to strengthen next steps.
