Expanding the boundaries of the health coverage debate through innovative public opinion research

Many opinion polls track immediate responses to issues that respondents have not considered adequately; polls may therefore not reflect accurately the public's response when proposed policy changes are under consideration. Viewpoint Learning has developed a program called ChoiceWork Dialogues as an alternative to traditional opinion polling. This day-long workshop forces participants to think critically and carefully about policy issues and to work together to determine which proposals are desirable and achievable. This contract supports three day-long Dialogues focusing specifically on health coverage issues. The main project deliverable will be a report describing in detail participants' responses to various policy options to improve health coverage. This project will be considered successful if it yields solid research on public opinion about different options for health coverage.
