In recent years, health care disparities among American racial and ethnic groups has obtained increased prominence in health care delivery and public policy, as exemplified by the Institute of Medicine's landmark report, Unequal Treatment. However, the nature and magnitude of issues related to health care disparities are not broadly known either to medical professionals, public policy makers, or other interested parties. Information that portrays health care disparities research in a clear and concise manner for interested lay audiences, policy makers, and professionals can improve understanding of key issues among these audiences. The purpose of this project is to produce a chartbook that summarizes key information on health care disparities, emphasizing the relationship between quality improvement and disparities reduction, for dissemination via the Foundation's Web site and other venues. The project will be considered successful if these charts are completed, posted on the Web site, and used by Foundation leadership and other leaders as aids for public presentations on health care disparities.
