The Foundation's program, Smoke-Free Families: Innovations to Stop Smoking During and Beyond Pregnancy, was designed as a multi-component strategy to improve current clinical practice and advance the field into the next generation of smoking cessation techniques for childbearing women. The purpose of this project is to: (1) conduct focus groups to increase the cultural relevance of an intervention that demonstrated preliminary effectiveness in a previous trial; (2) conduct a randomized control trial to determine which of two theory-based treatments produces higher cessation rates and greater environmental tobacco smoke reduction in Latinos; and (3) test mediators of cessation.
