The Foundation's program, Turning Point: Collaborating for a New Century in Public Health, was designed to transform and strengthen the public health infrastructure so that states, local communities, and their public health agencies may respond to the challenge to protect and improve the public's health in the 21st century. The purpose of this project is for the National Program Office (NPO) to provide technical assistance to the Turning Point states still operating with Foundation grants. This will include site visits, conference phone calls, and a grantee meeting. The NPO will effectively communicate innovations in public health systems change through sharing successes and lessons learned through the Turning Point initiative. These dissemination efforts will be at national meetings of public health professionals as well as meetings with federal and nonprofit organizations such as ASTHO, NACCHO, APHA, and PHF. The NPO will advance the knowledge and evidence about best practices in public health system improvement by publishing research papers in national journals and developing a book that articulates Turning Point findings. The NPO will also conduct a descriptive study to examine the amount and nature of funds leveraged by Turning Point states to augment activities both during the grant and to sustain ongoing efforts.
