The Foundation's Active Living Research program was designed to support investigator-initiated research to identify and assess structural, environmental, and policy changes with the potential to increase population levels of physical activity. This grant provides supplemental funds for a study originally funded by the Foundation's Healthy Eating Research (HER) program in its Round 1 funding that is analyzing BMI change based on school food policies between kindergarten and 5th grade in a national sample. This HER supplemental grant will add to the HER Round 1 grant by including school district physical activity policies. Data on school physical activity will come from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study (ECLS-K) and includes inspector assessments of facilities and teacher/administrator responses about physical education and recess. Surveys on school physical activity policy and facility condition may also be linked with ECLS data.
