Easy access to accurate information about the pathways to multiple health careers is essential for underrepresented, low-income students and first generation college students. This grant provides support for the maintenance and further development of ExploreHealthCareers.org (EHC), a full-service free online resource covering careers in health and health care. This site was developed explicitly as a resource to address the information needs of underrepresented minority students. The site primarily targets college and community college students; additional targets include pre-health advisors and academic counselors. High school students will be a secondary target of this site. Currently, more than 100 careers are featured; no single discipline or profession is given precedence. The Foundation's Summer Medical and Dental Education Program and the Dental Pipeline program have established relationships with EHC. Deliverables for this project include an increase in the number of careers profiled on ECH; updating and refreshing the current content, implementation of a marketing plan that targets students, college/community college career centers, pre-health advisees, faculty, and tribal, Hispanic serving and historically Black colleges and Universities; using focus groups and user testing to continually improve content and usability; the creation of a new advisory board and recruitment of other national partners; and implementation of a sustainability effort that includes sponsorships and advertising.
