The Foundation's Active Living Research program was designed to support investigator-initiated research to identify and assess structural, environmental, and policy changes with the potential to increase population levels of physical activity.The purpose of this project is to assess the impact of walking school bus program policies on children's safety, physical activity, and health. The study population will be 4th grade students in four schools in Houston, Texas. Data will be collected using student and parent surveys, environmental observation checklists, and objective measures of physical activity (accelerometers). Participation in the walking school bus process will also be tracked. Statistical analysis will be used to determine how successful the walking school bus program is on physical activity of students and their safety.
