The Foundation's program, Healthy Eating Research: Building Evidence to Prevent Childhood Obesity, was designed to support investigator-initiated research to identify and assess environmental and policy influences with the greatest potential to improve healthy eating and weight patterns among the nation's children.For Year 4, the Healthy Eating Research program will undertake a range of grant making, field-building, and policy-oriented, communication, evaluation and collaboration activities. Key activities include: (1) release of the round 4 Healthy Eating Research call for proposals; (2) release of round 3 Healthy Eating Research-New Connections call for proposals from underrepresented junior investigators; (3) release of a joint Active Living Research/Healthy Eating Research Rapid Response call for proposals; (4) oversight of the proposal review and solicitation process; (5) ongoing management and technical assistance to existing studies; (6) multiple field-building conferences, targeted commissioned papers and research and policy briefs; (7) increased efforts to connect with policy makers and other end-users, including through Leadership for Healthy Communities; (8) continued collaborative partnerships with Active Living Research, Bridging the Gap and other RWJF programs and funders; (9) hosting an annual grantee meeting; and (10) organizing and hosting the Wingspread II agriculture policy conference with co-funding from the Kellogg Foundation.
