The Foundation's program, Maximizing Enrollment for Kids: Making Medicaid and SCHIP Work, was designed to increase health insurance coverage of eligible but uninsured children in Medicaid and SCHIP by helping states improve their policies and procedures and to measure the impact of these changes. This grant supports: (1) the development and administration of a standardized diagnostic assessment of states' enrollment and retention systems, policies and procedures; (2) individualized technical assistance to help states develop and implement plans to increase enrollment and retention of eligible children consistent with the findings of the assessment; and (3) a communications system (Web site, listserv, conference calls) to enable states to share information regarding challenges and effective strategies with other states. The National Program Office will also disseminate best practices to national and state policy makers and stakeholders and organize an annual meeting.
