The Foundation's program, Public Health Law Research: Making the Case for Laws That Improve Health, was designed to build the evidence for public health law and policy, translate research findings into practical tools to increase the support for and use of law by policy makers and public health practitioners, and to translate findings to other fields and venues to improve and protect health. One of the major purposes of this program is to fund external research that will allow lawyers and public health and health policy researchers to focus on specific public health issues and determine the health impact of a law or policy. A National Program Office (NPO) will be selected and a search is being conducted to find a National Program Director and office. In order to facilitate a call for proposals (CFP) being developed and research being funded, an Administrative Services Office will be funded to assist with the administrative functions related to a call for proposals process including Grantmaking Online support and other services. Systems Research and Application Corporation (SRA) has been selected to provide these services, and they will: provide administrative support for the Grantmaking Online (GO) applicant and reviewer modules for a two-stage proposal; Reviewer coordination and support; Helpdesk and Applicant support for phone and email inquiries; administer the program Web site; coordinate the convening of a face-to-face review meeting; and reimburse all reviewers, National Advisory Committe, meeting participants and vendors associated with the program. Finally, they will provide a subcontract to the national program for planning activities to be completed as they set up their NPO prior to the issuance of a technical assistance and direction grant.
