This program contract funds an independent assessment of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's policy-focused investments in tobacco control. The contractor will review key documents and conduct interviews with national stakeholders on the emergence and influence of RWJF strategy. The project will describe the emergence and operation of the strategy over time; assess its impact to date on health outcomes for the nation; assess current RWJF tobacco initiatives in the context of RWJF's Public Health portfolio; and reflect on how similar strategies might be employed in RWJF initiatives in the future. This assessment will be presented by staff to the RWJF Board of Trustees in April 2010. Other deliverables will include a presentation to RWJF leadership and its Public Health staff team in January 2010, followed by a Program Staff Meeting presentation. A final report in June 2010 will include feedback from the staff and Board and will be suitable for distribution to the field including to other philanthropies.
