Public health institutes are positioned to play an important role in our nation's public health system. Institutes lead multisector population-based health programs, conduct evaluation and research, support the development of critical health policies, communicate compelling health messages, mobilize collaborative action, and engage multisector partners. The purpose of this project is to strengthen the role of the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) and individual institutes across the country in improving the quality and performance of the public health system, building the evidence about what works and advocating laws and policies that improve health. These objectives will be accomplished through: (1) technical assistance to existing and emerging public health institutes; (2) online and in-person networking and collaboration with a focus on public health accreditation, advocacy and research; and (3) assistance in the development and implementation of an NNPHI organizational sustainability plan.
