The Foundation's program, Project HealthDesign: Rethinking the Power and Potential of Personal Health Records, was designed to expand a vision of personal health records and encourage the market to develop products that meet the diverse needs of patients. In this project, the University of Wisconsin-Madison will provide technical assistance and direction for Project HealthDesign. They will work with and oversee the five grantee teams through the implementation phase of the program's second round of funding. The goal of this phase of Project HealthDesign is to create and demonstrate innovative ways to help people capture, understand and interpret information about the patterns of their lives -- observations of daily living (ODLs) such as their diets, activity levels, pain levels, and medication usage -- and to enable clinicians to integrate them meaningfully into clinical practice. The National Program Office will also work with selected consultants and/or vendors to address the grantees' technical requirements; to foster collaboration among the grantee teams; to address legal and policy challenges associated with conducting the demonstrations; and to ensure that program findings are included in evolving policy developments.
