The Foundation's initiative, Aligning Forces for Quality: The Regional Market Place was designed to help communities across the country align health care forces to improve the quality of health care. Through this initiative, targeted communities across the country are working to lift the overall quality and value of health care in both the inpatient and outpatient settings, reduce racial and ethnic disparities in care, and provide models for national reform. Albuquerque is one of the communities working towards the program's goals to improve the quality and value of health care. In this third phase of the initiative, the participating communities will build upon their on previous successes and lessons learned so that improvement in the quality of care starts to become clear, evident and measurable. Communities will take the tools of performance measurement, quality improvement and consumer engagement and use them to demonstrate change, with improvement stretching beyond the core stakeholders in the project as evidence that health care throughout the community is being affected. They will also increase their focus on reducing the costs of care to promote not just high-quality, but also high-value health care.
