This grant supports RESOLVE in managing a consensus-building process to identify principles for prioritizing funding for public health programs. Despite important gains in efforts to transform and modernize public health over the past few years, the current budget crisis poses a threat to this progress, as federal, state and local budgets are being slashed, reducing scarce dollars for public health and prevention. As deliverables, the consensus-building process will include one-on-one interviews and three in-person summits with approximately 15 to 20 public health thought leaders. The thought leaders will include federal policy makers, Obama administration staff, and public health leaders and advocates. The recommendations will be creative, solutions-oriented options with real implications for policy change and short-term implementation.
