Grantmakers in Film and Electronic Media (GFEM) will present the Henry Hampton Award for Excellence in Film and Digital Media to director Steve James for "The Interrupters," and showcase CeaseFire's work in violence prevention, at the annual Council on Foundations conference in April 2012 in Los Angeles. GFEM will host an evening event that will include a program featuring the filmmaker, CeaseFire Executive Director Gary Slutkin, a violence interrupter, and other collaborators, such as PopTech. Given this year's conference location, GFEM has secured the participation of notable figures in the entertainment industry to make the event a compelling attraction. GFEM also will plan a daytime conference session to engage funders in a discussion of the CeaseFire model and how to spread its vision. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funding will help GFEM stage the evening event and enable invited speakers to travel to the conference and take part in the programs.
