The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is supporting an educational forum at the 2012 annual meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors that will feature the CeaseFire model and its potential benefits for cities looking for novel solutions to prevent and reduce community violence. Gary Slutkin, executive director of CeaseFire, will present the model at the session, which will be moderated by Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and will feature speakers including New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Jennifer Whitehill (a member of the Johns Hopkins University evaluation team), and the Foundation's Vulnerable Populations Team Director Jane Lowe. This one-time forum will provide an opportunity to highlight for an array of mayors CeaseFire's public health approach to preventing violence at a time when evaluation data demonstrate the effectiveness of the program across multiple sites.
