The Foundation's Roadmaps to Health Community grants initiative was designed to identify, support, and disseminate models of cross-sector coalitions working to improve health by taking action to address the social and economic determinants of health, such as education, employment, income, community safety, and family and social support.Mason Matters seeks to enhance and/or build community systems that support educational attainment goals. They plan to implement meaningful Career and College Readiness (CCR) activities earlier into the school curriculum in the seven school districts in their county, to engage business partners in the school-based programs, and to change community culture to increase expectations related to educational attainment. They will implement their curriculum plan by developing and disseminating lesson plans, training teachers, and promoting common software. They will engage business partners through educational sessions and assessment tools, and foster sustainable involvement. They will also undertake a communications campaign to change cultural expectations among parents and community agencies No RWJF dollars will be used for lobbying. Deliverables include: CCR curricula, employer events, business assessment and engagement tools, a web-based toolkit, and a communications campaign to promote culture of career and college readiness.
