This grant supports the YMCA in coordinating and advancing an advocacy campaign to improve physical-activity standards for out-of-school and out-of-class time in underserved communities to combat the childhood obesity epidemic. The YMCA will be one of six hub leads under the direction of the American Heart Association (AHA), the lead advocacy organization, that will coordinate activities related to a specific policy target. Each hub lead will serve as a content expert and also coordinate work in the field. The YMCA will not use Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) funds for lobbying. RWJF staff will manage the YMCA in this project, and the YMCA will work closely with AHA. The YMCA will collaborate with RWJF staff and AHA to develop and implement a real-time evaluation framework to ensure effectiveness. The major deliverable for this effort is development of the Campaign for Active Out of School Time, which will include all of the leading national providers of out-of-school-time programming.
