Caring Across Communities re-engineers traditional mental health services to provide better and more sensible care for immigrants and refugees, especially children. Millions of families come to America each year in search of a better life. But assimilation is not easy and takes time. Immigrants face many barriers, including language, acculturation challenges, poverty and social hardships related to relocation. For refugees escaping persecution and violence, their traumatic experiences can impact greatly the social development of children. Unfortunately, most are unaware of how and where to get help. Caring Across Communities intervenes by addressing the specific mental health needs for children of immigrants and refugees.
