Partners in Caregiving: The Dementia Services Program
From 1993 to 1996, staff at Adult Care of Chester County in southeastern Pennsylvania increased the size of its facility, hired new staff, and initiated new marketing efforts in order to increase both the level and quality of services for dementia sufferers.
The project was part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Partners in Caregiving: The Dementia Services Program national program.
Key Results:
- The facility increased its space to accommodate the expected increase in enrollment.
- The adult care center hired new staff, including:
- A half-time in-service coordinator.
- A half-time social services director.
- An administrative assistant.
- Project staff divided the existing adult care program in two, creating:
- A program serving individuals with cognitive impairments.
- Another program serving persons with physical handicaps only.
- The adult care center increased its daily fee by 31 percent to match costs, and at the same time—through its client-oriented services and a focused marketing effort—increased its average daily attendance from 36.5 to 55 individuals.
