Guide Helps Journalists Report on the Quality of Health Care
Developing a media guide on health care quality
In 2002, the Association of Health Care Journalists created a guide for reporters and editors on how to report, write and edit stories focusing on the quality of health care.

- In 2002, the Association of Health Care Journalists published Covering the Quality of Health Care: A Resource Guide for Journalists.
The guide provides background, key statistics, sources and contact information to help journalists address the issue of health care quality in an informed and systematic way. Chapters cover such topics as medical errors and malpractice, chronic illness, comparing doctors, hospitals and health plans, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, long-term care, disparities in health care, mental health, and complementary and alternative medicine.
The guide was unveiled at the third national conference of the Association of Health Care Journalists in March 2002. Those joining the association as new members receive the 220-page guide free of charge. For others, the price is: $15 for working journalists; $35 plus $8 shipping and handling for nonprofit organizations; and $45 plus $8 shipping and handling for others.
