Celebrating fitness: Tribal youth-led promotion of active living
The Yavapai-Apache Youth Council applied for Celebrate Fitness funding after learning about the project at a UNITY meeting. "We did not know whether we would get the grant and it was a moment of great pride for the youth when we did," says Leona Wathagoma, who guided the council during its project.
The group built a trail near tribal headquarters, which made it easy for employees to use it at lunch or before or after work.
