This guest editorial summarizes recommendations from the 2010 Institute of Medicine report The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. The report came out of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing at the Institute of Medicine, which aims to improve the health care system by strengthening nursing care and leadership.
The report issued recommendations for policy changes at the national, state and local levels. Four recommendations are summarized below.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and AARP are collaborating to implement the findings of this report by creating the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action. This program will work to move key nursing issues forward at the national, state and local levels.
