Clark County Public Health, Center for Community Health was awarded the 5th annual Translating Research to Policy Award in 2012, by Active Living Research. The commentary describes the work that was recognized in Clark County, Wash.
The authors describe how they used research to effectively perform the Health Impact Assessment and how the recommendations from there led to improved policy for Clark County’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. Their extensive research outlining key associations between the built environment and physical activity formed the basis for policy recommendations to city planners.
Lastly, the authors reflect on a few lessons they learned and what next steps should be at the forefront when translating research into policy.
