In 2004–05, Christopher Conte, a writer for Governing magazine, wrote five magazine-length articles about key challenges facing state and local public health departments in diverse areas. In March 2006, the Trust for America's Health launched an online media center designed to educate reporters about public health issues.

In late 2006, the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania launched a website, YouthMediaRisk.org, to make data and findings of the center's Coding of Mental Health and Media Project (CHAMP) available to the public.

From 1998 to 1999, Pyramid Communications, Seattle, conducted media outreach effort promoting an efficient and effective public health system. The effort centered around the nationwide release of the movie, A Civil Action.
