NIATx: The Network for Improvement of Addiction Treatment Establishes Itself

From 2007 to 2011, the Network for the Improvement of Addiction Treatment (NIATx) established itself as a national resource center for addiction treatment providers, sustaining the work of two previous RWJF national programs.

Researchers at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) studied the use of state data to assess changes in Medicaid costs and criminal justice system involvement among patients treated in five substance abuse agencies that used process improvement.

State-Provider Partnerships Strengthen Addiction Treatment Access and Retention

Between 2006 and 2010, nine state-provider partnerships identified and removed barriers and changed administrative procedures in order to improve the quality of substance abuse services. RWJF supported two of the partnerships, in New York and Oklahoma.

A Collaboration to Promote Evidence-Based Practices in Addiction Treatment

In 2006, the State Associations of Addiction Services held its first conference to improve management skills of addiction treatment program leaders. NIATx (Network for Improvement of Addiction Treatment) helped in planning. Since 2008, the two organizations have sponsored joint conferences.

West Virginia Tackles a Substance Abuse Epidemic with Medication-Assisted Treatment

West Virginia was one of 12 states participating in Advancing Recovery: State and Provider Partnerships for Quality Addiction Treatment. Four treatment providers expanded the use of medication-assisted treatment in helping people overcome addictions.

Alabama Helps Addicted Adolescents Recover from Substance Abuse with Continuing Care

Alabama was one of 12 states participating in Advancing Recovery: State and Provider Partnerships for Quality Addiction Treatment. The state joined with three adolescent service providers to implement continuing care as their evidence-based practice.

Advancing Recovery in Missouri: Using Medications to Treat Alcoholism
