A study of the relationship of hospital characteristics to compliance with uterovaginal prolapse treatment recommendations found that although high-volume, teaching and private hospitals had better compliance rates than disproportionate share and public hospitals, compliance rates were low in all hospital types.

Outcomes Following Cholecystectomy in Pregnant and Nonpregnant Women

Biliary tract disease can occur in pregnant women due to increased estrogen and progesterone levels. Cholecystectomy has reduced complications from the disease. This study performed a cross-sectional analysis of pregnant women treated for biliary tract disease between 1999 and 2006.

Nature Versus Nurture Study of Deceased-Donor Pairs in Kidney Transplantation

This study reports important donor effects on the risks of delayed graft function (DGF) and allograft failure in kidney transplant patients. It suggests opportunities to improve transplant outcomes and decrease the significant health and economic costs associated with transplant failure.

Acute appendicitis is the most common surgical infection requiring an operation, and LOS can vary widely. While efforts to shorten LOS have focused on elective operations, this study determined that operative time of day had the greatest impact.

Rates of First Infection Following Kidney Transplant in the United States

This study examined trends and risk factors for post-transplant infections, the second most common cause of death after kidney transplant, in adult kidney transplant patients. Researchers found that the incidence of most infections has changed little since 1995.
