California's Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development has awarded more than $2.7 million to help improve training opportunities for family medicine practitioners, the San Francisco Business Times reports. Awarded under the Song-Brown program—which helps train physicians, nurse practitioners, physicians' assistants and R.N.s throughout the state—27 family practice residency training programs will receive funding. Award recipients include Natividad Medical Center in Salinas, which received $103,230; Loma Linda University, which received $154,845; and UC Davis, which received $206,460. Meanwhile, O'Connor Hospital, Santa Rosa Family Medicine and UCSF Medical Center/San Francisco General Hospital each received $51,615. Funding for the Song-Brown program is provided by the California Health Data Planning Fund through the annual fees it collects from health care facilities (Rauber, San Francisco Business Times, 9/3/09).
