University of Cincinnati to Offer Health Informatics Study Track

The University of Cincinnati has added a health informatics track to its information technology (IT) degree program, the Business Courier of Cincinnati reports. To be offered during the fall quarter, the study track consists of nine health care and IT-related courses, including anatomy and physiology, electronic medical records systems, and health care data concepts. The courses will be led by faculty from the school's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and College of Allied Health Sciences. Eight students have thus far registered for the program. According to the chairman of the Department of Information Technology, there is significant demand for "leaders who can bridge the worlds between medicine and IT technology." He adds that health informatics professionals are essentially translators who must communicate in both medicine and programming (Business Courier of Cincinnati, 9/16/09; University of Cincinnati release, 9/16/09).
