Dayton, Ohio-based Wright State University's Boonshoft School of Medicine has announced plans to launch a Division of Tactical Emergency Medicine, Med City News reports. The division, which will be part of the university's Department of Emergency Medicine, will provide direct care to public safety and medical personnel, as well as best practice training to the personnel and medical providers who serve them or work alongside them. As part of the program, sports medicine physicians and athletic trainers will learn how to care for injuries related to tactical law enforcement, which are comparable to sports-related injuries. Future plans for the division call for it to maintain a round-the-clock support center to serve all regional law enforcement agencies (Seper, Med City News, 9/17/09; Wright State University release, 9/17/09).
