Louisiana-based Grambling State University has received $4.5 million in federal funding to attract more minority students to biomedical science programs and strengthen its master's of science in nursing degree program, the Associated Press reports. The first grant, to be awarded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences in the sum of $1.5 million, will increase training opportunities for 12 minority students majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics or computer science. The students participating in the Minority Access to Research Careers program will receive full tuition reimbursement and a monthly stipend for 21 months. The students will also spend their summers interning at various research institutions nationwide. The university also received a $3 million United States Department of Education grant to strengthen its master's program in nursing.
