The University of Nevada-Reno has announced plans to build a medical teaching facility that will allow it to expand enrollment in its medical and nursing programs, the Reno Gazette-Journal reports. Construction of the $49 million William N. Pennington Health Sciences Building is expected to begin next year, with a targeted completion date slated for fall 2011. The expansion will allow the university to double its nursing class size and expand enrollment in its medical class from 62 students to 100 students. Eventually, the university plans to enroll 300 students in the Orvis School of Nursing and 400 students in its School of Medicine. According to the Reno Gazette-Journal, a new $86 million Center for Molecular Medicine will be completed in 2010, providing ample research space for students and faculty (Powers, Reno Gazette-Journal, 9/24/09).
