Kaiser Permanente to Open $1 Million Simulation Lab Training Facility

Kaiser Permanente will use $1 million in federal funding to establish a simulation training facility for nurses and other health care workers, the San Francisco Business Times reports. Provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Service Administration, the three-year grant will allow Kaiser to open a Medical Simulation Lab in the new Broadway Medical Office Building at its Oakland Medical Center campus. The lab will house a simulated hospital room featuring patient simulators that include children and birthing mothers. The lab will also feature classroom space and allow nurses and other caregivers to practice life-saving and decision-making skills in a simulated environment. According to the San Francisco Business Times, Kaiser Permanente has computerized patient simulation mannequins at 30 sites (Rauber, San Francisco Business Times, 9/29/09).
