Duke University Opens Satellite Medical School in Singapore

The Duke-National University of Singapore Graduate Medical School has opened its new satellite campus in Singapore, the Triangle Business Journal reports. To be housed in the Khoo Teck Puat Building, the medical school, which is a collaboration between the Duke University School of Medicine and the National University of Singapore, will include research laboratories, teaching and education spaces, genomic and computational biology research centers, and a library. According to Duke's chancellor for Health Affairs, the satellite campus will provide "faculty and students with a world-class environment in which to achieve our missions of advancing innovative medical education, creating a new generation of clinician-scientists, and speeding the translation of scientific discoveries to the bedside and thereby closing the gaps in health care disparities worldwide." According to the Triangle Business Journal, the school began enrolling students in 2007 and has since been operating out of various facilities throughout Singapore (Gallagher, Triangle Business Journal, 9/28/09).
