Louisiana Technical College's Alexandria campus has partnered with Tioga High School's certified nursing assistant (CNA) program to offer a course aimed at encouraging students to enter the nursing field, the Town Talk reports. As part of the two-semester program, students will receive lessons during the first semester on body structure and function as well as medical terminology, which will prepare them for their clinicals during the second semester. Upon completion of the program, students will be certified to work as a CNA while they continue their education. Louisiana Technical College supplies textbooks and some equipment for the program, while the district covers the students' tuition, registration, cap and gown, and graduation fees. Commenting on the program, Tioga High's principal notes that "the benefit to [the students] is that [the program] is at a very minimum cost, and they will graduate ready to enter the workforce" (Donica, Town Talk, 9/28/09).
