University of St. Francis Receives Federal Funding for DNP Program

Fort Wayne, Ind.-based University of St. Francis has received more than $800,000 in federal funding to support its new Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree program, Nurse.com reports. Furnished by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration, the funding will be awarded over three years to support the creation and delivery of classroom instruction for the DNP program. According to a release, St. Francis' DNP program is specifically designed to prepare nurses to practice in medically underserved areas and with vulnerable populations, including the poor, elderly and the uninsured. A nursing education concentration also is available to prepare students to serve as nurse faculty (Nurse.com, 10/5/09; Suburban Chicago News, 9/27/09).
