A Bloomington, Ill.-based program that helps young adults earn high school degrees while receiving job training has announced plans to add a certified nursing assistant (CNA) program, the Pantagraph reports. Available to students between age 18 and age 24 who are completing a GED or high school degree, the CNA track will prepare students to sit for the CNA certification program. As part of the program, students will travel to nearby Heritage Manor nursing homes for on-site training starting next spring. Students participating in the program will also be encouraged to pursue further licensure, such as Licensed Practical Nurse or R.N. certification. To aid in the effort, CareerLink will provide financial aid to students seeking college-level training. The new CNA program, which is expected to enroll an inaugural class of 22 students, is partially supported by a $30,000 donation from Wal-Mart and a $75,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation's State Giving Program (Steinbacher, Pantagraph, 10/21/09).
