Cleveland-based Case Western Reserve University's Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing has received six economic stimulus grants worth $3.7 million to support research efforts and provide scholarships to students, the Med City News reports. Efforts receiving funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act include projects to establish a center of excellence on end-of-life science; expand the Self-Management Advancement through Research and Translation Center by involving more disabled individuals in research studies; develop electronic tools to reduce health disparities; and test the effects of helping hospital patients more quickly become mobile. In addition, the university will use a portion of the funding to provide scholarships to nursing students pursuing masters and doctoral-level degree programs with the goal of becoming nurse educators. Students who qualify for funding under the Nurse Faculty Loan Program are eligible to have up to 85 percent of their loans forgiven over a four-year period while they serve as full-time nurse educators (Vanac, Med City News, 10/21/09).
