Oakland University to Launch Accelerated BSN Program

Detroit-based Oakland University's School of Nursing has announced plans to collaborate with St. John Health System to offer an accelerated nursing degree program, Crain's Detroit Business reports. Slated to open November 18 at the site of the former St. John Riverview Hospital in Detroit, the new Riverview Institute of Oakland University will offer a one-year Bachelor's of Science in Nursing degree program to students who have already earned a bachelor's degree in another field. The new school is expected to serve as a nurse recruitment tool for St. Johns. According to Crain's Detroit Business, the Riverview Institute will also provide training programs for patient care technicians and licensed practical nurses and offer public seminars and workshops on topics such as aging, health and nutrition (Beene, Crain's Detroit Business, 10/29/09; Oakland University release, 10/28/09).
