Indiana Hospital, University Partner to Enhance Medication Administration Training for Nurses

Indiana-based Community Hospital Anderson has announced plans to collaborate with neighboring Anderson University School of Nursing to help train nurses in medication administration, the Herald Bulletin reports. To be offered in connection with the Community Hospital Anderson Foundation, the program will provide training on the Pyxis MedStation System. Specifically, nurses will learn how to operate the system's barcode scanning feature to dispense medications. Nurses will also receive education on the system's various alerts designed to make staff aware of the potential for medication errors or other complications. School officials expect that the enhanced training on medication dispensing will provide students much-needed practice before entering the patient-care environment, as well as help them more seamlessly transition into their careers following graduation (Herald Bulletin, 10/30/09; Anderson University release, 10/29/09).
