Introduction & Purpose
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) is committed to building a national Culture of Health that will enable all in a diverse society to lead healthier lives now and for generations to come. RWJF funds a wide array of research and initiatives to better understand and improve health equity and achieve better health for all. Supporting research to identify strategies to improve nutrition, prevent childhood obesity, and advance health equity is part of the process of building a Culture of Health.
Regarding childhood obesity, RWJF has widened its focus to consider broader questions about nutritional adequacy and upstream factors affecting diet-related health. The Research on Diet-Related Health (DRH) program-launched by RWJF in 2024 in partnership with Komodo Health and managed by Mathematica-is designed to leverage health claims data to gain actionable insights on diet-related health and morbidity. This call for proposals (CFP) underscores RWJF’s commitment to engage with health and related sectors in developing a strong evidence base to inform some of the most complex health and policy issues facing our nation today.
The DRH program aims to facilitate access to rich data by serving as a conduit between Komodo Health’s comprehensive dataset and interested researchers. Under this CFP, successful applicants will conduct research to better understand the impact of diet on health, improve treatment, and/or reduce barriers to treatment. Data access awards will provide free access to Komodo Health’s Healthcare Map.™ Eligible research projects will focus on topics related to diet-related health and morbidity to better understand the impact of diet on health, improve treatment, and/or reduce barriers to treatment.
